There’s nothing like the deep throaty purr of a Harley Davidson engine. Even if you’re not a motorcycle enthusiast, it’s still a sound that exudes the feelings of freedom, power and rebellion. Admit it, you’re imagining that very sound right now – and if it’s not quite forming, here’s the official Harley-Davison YouTube page to jog your memory.

Founded in the US in 1903, by friends William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson, it has possibly become the most famous chopper-style motorcycle brand in the world. On its way up, Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been heavily featured in pop culture throughout the decades, making notable appearances in hits that include Easy Rider, Pulp Fiction, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Today, the company is also publicly traded and its stock ticker on the New York Stock Exchange is aptly named “HOG”.

As the gold standard of two-wheeled vehicles, the dream of owning a Harley-Davidson comes with a hefty price tag. Here’s how much it actually costs to bring home one of these iconic motorcycles.

Cost Of New Harley-Davidson Motorbikes In Singapore

Similar to buying a new car, buying a new motorcycle is going to cost more money. At Wearnes Harley-Davidson Singapore – the official distributor of Harley-Davidson motorbikes in Singapore – there are four main classes of motorbikes on offer: Grand American Touring, Cruiser, Adventure Touring, and Sport.

There’s a large range in pricing across the various classes. The Nightster Special 2024 model (Sport) is retailing for $39,900 and up, excluding the motorcycle cost of entitlement (COE). It’s worth remembering that the COE for motorcycles in Singapore is currently in the range of $9,000 to $10,000.

The 2024 Grand American Touring motorcycles by Harley-Davidson are the more classic style of motorcycle and these heavy-duty bikes are in six various models in Singapore. All these models are selling on the high end of what’s available and the most pricey of the range is the CVOTM Road GlideTM – a motorcycle that starts at $127,900 and up. The model has distinctive “sharknose” and is designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

The 2024 “Cruiser” range of motorcycles offers up nine different bikes and a motorcycle like the 2024 Fat Bob 114 is selling for $68,900 and up. Described as a “street-eater with an appetite for power”, the model has dual-disc front brakes that help keep all that horsepower in check.

Being somewhere in the mid-range, we will use this motorcycle as the example in our article. All the prices quoted above exclude the motorcycle COE so you can add an extra $9,000-10,000 on top. This means the 2024 Fat Bob 114 should cost around $78,900, inclusive of COE.

Buying A Second-Hand Harley-Davidson Motorbike In Singapore

Again, as with cars, it can be more affordable to buy a motorcycle second-hand. One of the biggest marketplaces for second-hand bikes in Singapore is sgbikemart.com. As of 26 September 2024, there were over 50 Harley-Davidson second-hand motorcycles available for sale on the platform.

When searching through the models, we also need to be aware that some will be older models that we may not have a comparative reference to, such as a 2009 Harley Davidson Road King that we found being marketed at S$16,800 and has just short of five years left on its COE.

For a comparative example, we found a 2023 Fat Bob 114 motorcycle from the Cruiser range being marketed at S$57,800 and it has just over nine years left on its COE, having been registered at the end of November 2023.

Not Cheap, But Second-Hand More Economical

Owning a Harley-Davidson isn’t cheap in Singapore. While the higher-end models can cost as much as a car, we have to understand that owning a Harley-Davidson is more than just owning another motorbike – it’s as much about owning the intangible and priceless culture. Think of the cost of a Ferrari or Lambourghini.

Owning a brand-new Harley can set you back close to $130,000 if you are buying one of the more classic models at the higher-end. Then you also have to factor in adding on the cost of the motorcycle COE – at around $9,000 to $10,000 currently.

Comparatively speaking, buying a second-hand Harley-Davidson is more economical. Even buying second-hand Harley motorcycles that are just one or two years old can save you tens of thousands of dollars versus buying the same model brand new.
