LifeSG app

Most Singaporeans should be familiar with the LifeSG app. It’s where families have to register the birth of their child and apply for Baby Bonus; past and present NSmen received $200 in National Service (NS) LifeSG Credits during Budget 2024; and everyone can check on their SkillsFuture credits (and access other Government schemes).

After the Singapore Budget 2025 announcements, there will definitely be renewed interest in the LifeSG app.

PM Lawrence Wong announced two LifeSG credit disbursements:

1) A one-off Child LifeSG Credits worth $500 for each Singaporean child aged 12 and below this year. Families with children born between 2013 to 2024 will get their Child LifeSG Credits in July 2025, while those with children born in 2025 will receive the Child LifeSG Credits in April 2026.

2) Larger families will also enjoy an annual Large Family LifeSG Credit (LFLC) worth $1,000 during the years that their third and subsequent child turns one to six. For example, families with four children under six will get $2,000 in Large Family LifeSG Credits for their third and fourth child. This will be disbursed in September 2025 for eligible children turning one to six in 2025, and in will be disbursed in April in subsequent years.

How To Redeem Your LifeSG Credits?

For those still wondering, this is going to be an easy answer: you do not have to redeem your LifeSG credits. It will automatically be disbursed into your LifeSG app.

However, you can only see the LifeSG credits that you have already received on the app. So, don’t expect to see the new LifeSG credits for your children on the app just yet.

You should also know when your LifeSG credits will be disbursed. For reference:

– The $200 in National Service (NS) LifeSG Credits were disbursed in November 2024, and you can also expect to receive similar LifeSG credits worth $1,000 at the completion of Full-Time National Service (FTNS), and $500 at the mid-point and completion of ORNS;

– The one-off $500 in Child LifeSG Credits will be disbursed in July 2025

– The annual $1,000 Large Family LifeSG Credit (LFLC) will be disbursed in September 2025; and in subsequent years, will be disbursed in April

If you do not see the credits on your LifeSG app, you should contact the relevant Government agency. For example, those who did not see their $200 National Service (NS) LifeSG Credits after November 2024 should contact the NS Call Centre at 1800 367 6767 or email contact@ns.gov.sg

Similarly, you should wait till July 2025 to receive your one-off $500 Child LifeSG Credits, and till September 2025 for the first payment of your Large Family LifeSG Credits for your third and subsequent child. If you have any appeals, you can write in to MSF.

How You Can Use Your LifeSG Credits?

Once you have received your LifeSG credits, you will be able to view them on the Home page > under the Benefits and support section. You simply have to select “View Details” on the LifeSG credit that you want to use, and select “Scan QR code to pay”.

Pertaining specifically to the one-off Child LifeSG Credits and Large Family LifeSG Credits, the Singapore Budget 2025 announcements explain that this can be used to defray household expenses, such as groceries, utilities, pharmacy items and/or transport services.

While this may be the intent of the disbursements, you can use the LifeSG Credits to make payment at any online or physical merchants that offer PayNow UEN QR or NETS QR. However, you will not be able to use the LifeSG credits when paying at merchants that use a PayNow QR code that is linked to their personal phone number (instead of their company UEN number). You may want to check with the merchant if your payment does not go through.

If the merchant is using a PayNow UEN QR code or NETS QR code, but you’re unable to use your LifeSG credits to make payment, you can contact LifeSG at helpdesk@life.gov.sg, and include 1) the merchant name, 2) location, 3) date and time of transaction and 4) your mobile device model and software version.

Note that since you need to scan a valid QR code, only phones with a camera can be used to make payment with your LifeSG credits. You also cannot use a Hauwei phone, as LifeSG is not available on the Huawei AppGallery.
